Lucile Gibson Green passed away Sunday, January 11, 2015, at Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Danville, VA. She was born in Sampson County, NC on March 22, 1927. Cile was the daughter of Dr. Arthur Vann Gibson and Kate Wootten Gibson. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard Peyton Green, Jr., and her grandson, Austin Middleton Green. She is survived by her loving family, sisters Vann Gibson Shackelford and Mary Gibson Cox, of Atlanta, GA., son H. Peyton Green III and wife, Catherine; son Richard C. Green(Dickie) and wife, Pamela; daughter Lucile G. McHenry(Lucy) and husband, Norm; grandchildren Peyton Green IV and wife, Alissa, Leila Green, Austin's widow, Ashley Green, Carson Green, Benton Green, Brett McHenry, Ryan McHenry; and great-grandchildren Caroline and Ella Green and Abigail and James Austin Green. Cile had many passions, her family, her church and its music, and education. She attended Agnes Scott College and later received her BA and MA in Education from Lynchburg College. She was formerly employed by the Pittsylvania County School system for many years, initially as a music and elementary teacher and later as head of Testing for the county schools. She has been a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church and its choir and served on the board of Danville Community College. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 2 pm Saturday January 17, 2015 with the Reverend Allen Thompson officiating. Interment will be at Highland Burial Park immediately following the service.
