Lowell Thomas "Tom" Miller, 81, of 148 Summit Road, died Monday, June 3, 2013 at Danville Regional Medical Center. Born on February 5, 1932 in Turtle Creek, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Everett Miller and Blanch Elkins Miller. He was married to Joyce Miller who survives of the residence. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the United States Army. He was a graduate of the University of Charleston and worked in sales for Proctor and Gamble for over 36 years. Tom was happiest when involved in helping others in the community. He was active at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Methodist Men, was a member of the chancel choir, was a certified Lay Speaker, was delegate to the Annual Conference's, South East Jurisdictional Conference and General Conference among others. He was responsible for creating the Dixie Youth Little League in Blackstone, VA and was also very involved in the Danville Little League. He served on the board of directors for the Henry Fork Service Center in Rocky Mt. and was part of many fund-raising efforts at Trinity UMC, especially the annual barbeque auction held each fall. He volunteered for the Community Christmas Dinner each year. In his early days in Danville he was active with the Jaycees and the barbershop chorus. He was a member of the Improved Order of Redmen, Poquoson Tribe 124. He was a dedicated husband, father & grandfather. Tom was a larger than life person who infused everyone around him with his joy of living and in serving others. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Tommy Miller of Wilmington, NC, Terri Bagley and husband Chris of Newton, NC, Robert Miller of Danville, and Alan Miller and his wife Crystal of Danville; a granddaughter, Sofia and soon to be born twin grandchildren of Danville; and a sister Phyllis Clendenin of Melbourne, Florida. Funeral services will be held, Friday, June 7, 2013 at 11:00 AM, at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Reverend Charles Wickham officiating. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 6, from 7 t0 8:30 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church and at other times will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Trinity United Methodist Church, which serves many various charitable causes.
