view Lorraine Collie Memorial Tribute On Monday, March 25, 2019, Lorraine Collie, devoted wife and loving mother of two sons, passed away at 92. Lorraine was born on April 7, 1926 in Danville, VA to Mattie and Harry Taylor. Like many of her generation, Lorraine was proud to say she spent her entire life in the Danville community. She graduated from George Washington High School in 1945. Immediately following graduation, she started her 43 year career at Dan River. On October 9, 1948 she married the love of her life Robert Collie and they celebrated 50 years of marriage. They took great pride in raising their two sons, David and Steve. Lorraine had a passion for serving the Lord, and was an active member of North Main Baptist Church. She volunteered in the library and held leadership positions in the Sunshine Club. Her church family often requested her famous chocolate pies for special events and bereavement lunches. She was also an avid walker and loved to stroll through her neighborhood often stopping to catch up with neighbors and friends. Lorraine will forever be remembered for her unwavering faith, eternal positive attitude, strong work ethic and kind and compassionate spirit. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister. She is survived by her sons David and Steve, daughter in laws Pam and Anne, and five grandchildren Robert, Alexandra, Lauren, Zachary and Caroline. Given that Lorraine was a woman of deep and abiding faith; her family finds great comfort knowing she is reunited with her beloved family and friends in the company of heaven. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 27th, 2019 at Townes Memorial Chapel at 2 PM. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1PM to 2PM at the funeral home.
