Lola Mae Martin Rose, age 93, left this Earthly home, packed up her life, and moved to her final home on December 31, 2022, where she is healthy and smiling.
She was born February 9, 1929 to Pearl Mae Wigington Martin and George Harvey Martin of Stanleytown, VA, whom Lola gets to visit with daily now.
She dearly loved both sets of her grandparents, the Martin’s and the Wigington’s – Whether it was riding the family farm horse in the tobacco fields, or enjoying fresh corn grown at the kitchen door, pulled and fried just for her for breakfast.
She enjoyed a simple, but work driven life, that kept her going from age 15 (she was asked to work for Dan River Mills and they “forged” her work permit to get her employed), until she accepted full retirement from M & W Flower Shop, LLC at the age of 90. Many knew her as “The Flower Lady”, or simply “Rose”. Flowers are appreciated and Lola would appreciate the thoughts, as she loved her flowers, and seeing the love spread by flowers being delivered.
She, in her time in Danville, would meet and marry Cecil Ervin Rose, who had moved from Clintwood, VA, and was also seeking work at Dan River Mills.
From that union, was born Michael Ervin Rose, who survives, along with Les Lawson, Anita Faye Goebel and Dean Lawson.
She is further survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as her sister Mona Edmunds and brother Donnie Martin.
Her service will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Chatham, VA, on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at 12:00 PM by the Rev. Becky Crites. Interment will be at Danville Memorial Gardens, where she will join her husband Cecil.
The family will receive the night prior at the home of Michael and Charles, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, 4609 Snakepath Road, Blairs, VA, however the family humbly asks for no food at the home.
