Lois Walker

December 31, 1969 — July 16, 2015

The sons of Lois Marie Cowan Walker, 85, sadly convey that our mother has departed to begin her heavenly journey as of last Thursday July 16. Lois was born in 1930 in Danville Virginia, daughter of the late Lillie DeLong Cowan and the late Clarence A. Cowan. Lois graduated from George Washington High School in 1948 and married Daniel T. Walker, Sr. now of Reidsville, NC. All her life, Lois was a proud and devoted working mother of 3 sons. At home, she dealt with assorted creatures from lightning bugs to crayfish escaping from their containers plus encounters with bear, skunk and rattlesnake during family camping trips, not to mention all the scrapes and mishaps of sons growing into young men. At work, she handled administrative and bookkeeping duties for Dan River Mills, and until retirement, for John W. Daniel & Co. Lois had been an active member of the JWD Retirement Group, Trinity United Methodist Church and a volunteer at the Danville Public Library. Her many other interests included genealogy research, beachcombing, travel, and providing loving support to friends, family members and neighbors. Lois is survived by 3 sons, Robert Alan Walker of Richmond, VA, William Harvey Walker of Apex, NC, and Daniel T. Walker Jr., of Liberty, NC, by a devoted sister, Evelyn Cowan Hardy of Chattanooga, TN, by 5 grandchildren, and by many beloved nieces and nephews. We give our heartfelt thanks to the tireless and patient caregivers at Brookdale Memory Care in Burlington, NC and at Hospice. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm Saturday, July 25 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 409 Arnett Blvd, Danville, Va. 24540, followed by a private burial. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Trinity United Methodist Church or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd, Burlington, NC. 27215. As Lois transitioned from this world to the next, she reached out one last time and said, "I will love you forever." We will love you forever too, Momma. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Walker family.
