Linda Terriberry died peacefully on 12-7-18 at Roman Eagle after a four year struggle with progressive dementia. In accordance with her wishes and family tradition the cadaver was donated to science through the Virginia Anatomical Program. Born Linda Childs Thomsen of New Canaan, Connecticut in 1928, Mrs. Terriberry was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver and her son, Keith. She is survived by her brother Walter Thomsen of Houston, Texas, her children Judy (Mrs. Robert) Broughton, Danville, VA and her son Gilson Terriberry of Champaign, Illinois, her grandchildren Linda Warnier of La Crau, France; Major Robert Broughton, MD of Ft. Gordon, GA; Jennifer Cohn of Greenwich, Conn; and Captain Michael Broughton of Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. She has three great-grandchildren, Lily and Jack Warnier and Akash Broughton. Mrs. Terriberry was an activist marched for the poor and disadvantaged. After a year at Smith College she spent time in Europe with a group of youth repairing damage done to youth hostels by W. W. II. She met and married her husband while at the University of Connecticut. The couple moved to Georgia where she supported her husband’s work as a dairy farmer, researcher at GA Tech and Development Planner in North Georgia. She hosted many exchange students from all over the world. She was always active in her communities and a pioneer in implementing the Head Start Program in Gainesville, GA. In retirement, she and her husband moved to Danville to be closer to her daughter. Following her husband’s death, she became a volunteer with hospice in Danville as well as with her church preparing bag lunches for the homeless. In 2013, she had a cerebral hemorrhage causing the stroke that began her decline. In Lieu of a formal service, her family requests that she be remembered in conversation among her friends and that any gifts of remembrance be to the hospice organizations in Danville, to Roman Eagle, or to services for the homeless.
