Linda Harper Cox, 73, of 233 Mowbray Arch, Danville, Virginia, died on Saturday, October 31, 2015, at her home. Born October 30, 1942, in Danville, she was the daughter of Robert Edward Lee Harper and Elsie Pollok Harper. On July 31, 1965, Linda married Carlton H. Cox, her high school sweetheart. They enjoyed celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary with family this past July. Linda grew up in the Pleasant Gap community. In 1961 she graduated from Whitmell Farm Life School. Following her graduation from James Madison College in 1965 with a BA Degree in Business Education, she taught at Drewry Mason High School in Ridgeway, Virginia; at George Washington High School in Danville, Virginia; and in the Charlottesville School System. She also taught for several years at Danville Community College. Linda was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught four and five year olds in Sunday School. She volunteered with The American Heart Association and was a member of The Wednesday Club. In addition to her parents, Linda was predeceased by two infant brothers, Robert Edward Harper and John Hutchings Harper. Survivors, in addition to her husband, include her daughter, Catherine Cox Decker, and son-in-law, Michael Andrew Decker, of Tega Cay, South Carolina; her daughter, Harper Cox Morrow, and son-in-law, Robert Bruff Morrow, of Houston, Texas; and her grandchildren, Carlton Andrew Decker, Natalie Grace Decker, Ellie Harper Morrow and Catherine Bruff Morrow. Linda enjoyed traveling with her husband, Carlton, to visit her daughters' families and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. One of her other interests was traveling to football weekends at The University of Virginia. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. John Carroll and Dr. Joey Faucette officiating. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church immediately following the graveside services. At other times the family will be at the Cox residence, 233 Mowbray Arch. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, to Commonwealth Hospice or to the charity of your choice.
