Mr. Lewis Randolph "Randy" Handy, age 78 of 116 Parkmoor Court died on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Inc. Mr. Handy was born in Ferrum, VA on September 23, 1935, a son of the late James A. Handy and Hattie May Via Handy. He graduated from Ferrum College in l956 and served in the U. S. Army for four years. Upon his return he worked at Bassett Furniture. He retired from Dibrell Brothers Tobacco Company after 30 years serving as Vice-President in the Data Processing Department. Mr. Handy was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church and Danville Golf Club. Besides his parents he is predeceased by a brother, Bill Handy and sister-in-law, Norma Jean Akers and his niece, Rhonda Akers. Mr. Handy is survived by his beloved wife Peggy Akers Handy of 57 years, his only child, Tyler Akers Handy and his wife Melanie and their two children Jonah and Abigail Handy, Also surviving are three brothers, Roger Handy, Harold and his wife Jareena Handy, Lynwood and Linda Handy and sister-in-law, Janet Handy, brother-in-law Donnie Akers and his two sons Eddie and his wife Sharon Akers and Dillard and his wife Iris Akers. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 18, 2014 at 2:30 P.M. from the graveside at Mountain View Cemetery with the Reverend Barry Foster officiating. The family will family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home on Friday, April 18, 2014 from 1 to 2:30 P.M. and at other times will be at the residence, 116 Parkmoor Court. The family requests that memorials may be made to Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, 107 West Main Street, Danville, VA 24541. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street is serving the Handy family. On line
