Lewis Oscar Daniel, Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, January 28, 2019. Born on March 22, 1931, in Blanch, NC, he was the first of four children of the late Lewis Oscar Daniel and Martha Gunn Daniel. He was the devoted husband to the late Nellie Stephens Daniel for 63 years. Mr. Daniel was predeceased by a brother, Earl Daniel. He is survived by three children, son Lewis Wayne Daniel and his wife, Ann, of Danville, VA; daughter, Jeanne Daniel Fowler and her husband, Tommy, of Danville, VA; and son Russell Taylor Daniel and his very good friend, Vickie, of Danville, VA. He was blessed with three grandchildren, Dusty F. Easley and her husband, Micah; Traci F. Nuckols and her husband, Keenan; and Justin Fowler; and three great-grandchildren, Edward Easley, Easton Nuckols, and the late Kade Nuckols. He is also survived by his two youngest siblings, Margaret Daniel Slade of Blanch, NC, and Ronald Daniel of Blanch, NC; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Daniel served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955. Following military service, he returned to his family’s dairy and tobacco farm before working at Watlington Farm Center for over 30 years. He was a member of Holland Road Baptist Church. He will be remembered for his love of family, friends, and Jesus, as well as his humorous nature and love of aviation, particularly the B-36 Peacemaker on which he served as crew chief while in the Air Force. A funeral service will be held at Holland Road Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30, with Rev. James Mayes officiating. Interment to follow at Danville Memorial Gardens. Visitation for family and friends will be at Townes Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 29, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., and at other times at the residence of 207 Westmore Drive.
