Leonard J. Brooks went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 3, 2021. He was born in Caswell County, NC, the son of the late Tom Brooks and Lucy Gentry Brooks. Leonard is survived by his loving daughter Sandra Brooks Hutchens and her husband Gary D. Hutchens whom he loved like a son. He also is survived by two sisters, Helen Willis and her husband, Roy Willis Sr. and Alma Moran. He was predeceased by three brothers, Fletcher Brooks, Dewey Brooks, and Bennie Brooks; and one sister, Gracie B. Johnston. Leonard worked faithfully for the City of Danville Water and Gas Department as a Supervisor for 45 years. He always said he liked to work with natural gas and hated working on water. He was known by many people. Some knew him as “Squirrel” a nickname since childhood. To his co-workers, he was D-9. However, his most special name, the one he loved best, was Daddy, just ask his daughter. He never met a stranger, he was kind, giving and truly had a servant’s heart. He loved gardening always sharing with other people. He was an avid collector of anything old and never happier than spending time with his friends at the Ringgold Flea Market. He was of the Holiness Faith. Due to Covid-19, a private graveside service will be held Saturday, February 6, 2021 with Reverend Mark Moore officiating. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
