Leonard Bernstein 91, passed away on Wednesday, January 11,2017 after living a funny and adventurous life. His motto was the three L's--Love, Laughter, and Learning. Len was a decorated World War II veteran having earned a Bronze Star. He later reconnected with fellow veterans at 87th division reunions. He graduated from Columbia University with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Economics. He also earned a Master's degree in Mathematics from New York University. He authored two books on statistics. His 35-year career at Merrill Lynch involved commodities, statistics, and computers. Len was an avid tennis player, played softball, enjoyed skiing, and loved to sail so much that he and his wife lived on their boat for two years. Leonard Bernstein 91, passed away on Wednesday, January 11,2017 after living a funny and Len is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Diane Bernstein; by his daughter, Dr. Jonna Bernstein and her husband, George Condon, Jr.; by his son, Steven Bernstein and his wife, Dr. Elyse Levine Bernstein; and his grandchildren, Matthew, Adam, and Jeremy Davidson, and Jonathan and Maya Bernstein. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at 2 pm at Townes Funeral Home in Danville, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Len's favorite charities, United Spinal Association (unitedspinal.org) or Smile Train (smiletrain.org). Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street is serving the Bernstein family.
