In the early morning of May 30, 2023, LaVerne Easterling English, beloved wife, mother, and Nana passed away peacefully at SOVAH Danville at the age of 96 years old. LaVerne was born in Glennville, GA on January 14, 1927. She was married to the late Wendell Blair English on August 19, 1950. She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Lynchburg College and then a Master’s Degree in Education from The University of Virginia.
LaVerne spent her many years on this earth as a lifelong educator in both Danville and Pittsylvania County. She had a love for all of her students and continued to teach for many years after her retirement. She was a teacher by day and a seamstress by night. There was nothing that she could not make or fix with a needle and thread. To those that love her the most, Laverne was known as Nana. Nana loved her family dearly and never missed an opportunity to pour out her love to them. Nana started each and every day with a time of prayer and devotion. She was a true role model to her friends and family. Nana was ready to be with Jesus and she tried to make sure all of her family knew the importance of a relationship with Christ.
LaVerne was a member of the former West End Christian Church, Third Avenue Church, and Fairview United Methodist Church where she could always be found singing in the choir. In her later years, Alzheimer’s took over her memory, but she always loved a call and visit from Pastor Doug Barber.
She was preceded in death by her parents Mae and Henry Easterling, her sister Martheda Hultz, and her husband Wendell Blair English. She is survived by her beloved three daughters Lynn Clark (Zane), LaDelle Moan, and Elizabeth Fitzgerald. She left behind seven grandchildren Kristen Aron (Mark), Scott Doherty, Heather Fischer (Adam), Jason Moan (Ashley), Michael Fitzgerald (Ashley), Eric Fitzgerald (Jennifer), and Caitlyn Fitzgerald. She has also been blessed with eleven great-grand children Dylan and Mady Aron, Masin Mckenna, Layklin and Palmer Fischer, Connor and Alannah Fitzgerald, and Kennerly and Liam Fitzgerald, Aspen and Oaklen Moan. Lastly, she is survived by dear nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own children.
A celebration of life will be conducted on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at 3:00 pm as a graveside service at Highland Burial Park, open to anyone who wishes to pay their respect. The family will also receive friends at the daughters Lynn, LaDelle and granddaughter Kristen Aron residences.
