Kristen “Kris” Swanson Gibson Cox, age 55, was ushered into the arms of our Heavenly Father on Sunday, February 20, 2022. Kris was born on August 27, 1966 in Danville, VA, the daughter of Gerald Alden Gibson and Kathryn “Kitty” Swanson Gibson. Kris grew up in Danville, VA and attended George Washington High School. After graduating in 1984, Kris earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and a Master of Arts degree at James Madison University. She was a member of “Phi Alpha Theta Sorority”, an American honor society for students of History, where she maintained lifetime friendships that she treasured. After graduating from James Madison University, Kris taught Geography and History at George Washington High School, where she loved and adored her students. Kris is described by her family and friends as generous, kind, sincere and a giver of unconditional love. She was known for her beautiful handwritten notes and her ability to make everyone feel special. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Kris loved reading, traveling, going out with her friends, and all animals. Left to cherish her memory is her father, Gerald Alden Gibson, who loved and adored her with all of his heart. She is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and so many of the students she treasured. Kris is predeceased by her mother, Kathryn Swanson Gibson; grandparents, Clyde and Elizabeth Gibson and Samuel and Ruth Swanson. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, February 25, 2022 at First Presbyterian Church, Danville, VA. Burial will follow in the Swansonville United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 24, at Townes Funeral Home from 6 PM to 7:30 PM.
