Kenneth Tate

Kenneth Lester Tate, 94, of 320 Parkland Drive, Danville passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 31, 2019.    He is now in Heaven with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Born in the Kentuck community on January 9, 1925, he grew up in Sutherlin, a son of the late Oliver McKinley Tate and the late Dora Woodson Tate.  On July 27, 1946, he married the love of his life, Bettie Kendrick Tate, who predeceased him.  They were blessed with 63 years of marriage. At the age of 18, Lester was called to serve his country in World War II in the Navy, in the 8th Beach Battalion.  He served in North Africa, Italy, and France.  He was a member of the American Legion and VFW organizations.   Lester worked for Dan River Mills, Inc., for over 43 years as a supervisor in the Finishing and Inspection Department. He was a lifetime member of Laurel Grove Baptist Church where he served in numerous leadership positions.   He was always eager to witness and share the love of God with those he came in contact with.  He never met a stranger and loved people.  He loved working in the Pittsylvania Baptist Association, serving on numerous committees over the years.  Lester believed the man of the home should serve God, his family, his country and others.  His family was his life, his love, and he thanked God for them. He is survived by two daughters, Judy T. Bradner (John), and Janet T. Wyatt (Randy).  Also surviving is a sister, Lois T. Dodson; three grandsons: Derek Bradner (Grace), Brian Bradner (Sandra), and Anthony Wyatt.  In addition he is survived by five great grandchildren: John Elliott Bradner, Evan Bradner (Emily), Cole Bradner, Jack Bradner, and Alannah Kelly, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by three brothers: Roy G. Tate, Nelson O. Tate, and Toy L. Tate.  Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 4, 2019, at 2 P.M., from the Townes Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Carl Burger officiating and Mr. Sam Carter assisting in the service.   Interment will follow the service in Highland Burial Park with Military Honors being presented by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and American Legion Dan River Post 1097.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 3rd, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and at other times will be at the residence.   The family would like to express its appreciation to All Care Home Health and Liberty Hospice personnel for their loving care and support during the illness and death of their loved one.
