Ken Meadors, 65, of 523 Mowbray Arch, Danville, died Sunday October 30, 2016. Ken Meadors, beloved husband, father, papa, coach and friend, passed away suddenly on Sunday evening from a massive heart attack. Ken grew up in the Tunstall community, playing football and baseball at Tunstall High School and baseball at UNC Wilmington. He graduated from Averett College with a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education, and Lynchburg College with a Master’s degree in Health and Physical Education. He returned to the area after college to spend his life as a teacher and coach. Ken spent his professional career as a teacher and head football coach at Gretna High School, Dan River High School, Bartlett Yancey High School, Bluestone High School, and as an adjunct professor at Danville Community College. He was known for his dedication to family, friends, players and students, and his rousing half-time talks that spurred many a team to victory. He loved life, living each day to the fullest and bringing laughter to all who knew him. He enjoyed playing golf, collecting model trains and slot cars, going to auctions with his wife, and spending time with his daughters, granddaughter and family. Rarely was he found without a large sweet tea, a smile, and a great story to tell. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Helen Whitt Meadors; his daughters, Whitney M. Morrison of Vienna, VA and Carter Meadors of Nashville, TN. He is also survived by son-in-law, Richard Morrison and granddaughter, Carter Laird Morrison of Vienna and his mother, Hazel T. Meadors of Danville. He was predeceased by his father, Oscar S. Meadors and brother, Ronald C. Meadors. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 2 pm at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Allen Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence.
