Kenneth Fuqua

July 31, 1938 — April 30, 2024

Kenneth Gatewood Fuqua, (Kenny), passed away peacefully on April 30, 2024.

Kenny was the son of the late Thelma and Gurnie Fuqua, and after their passing, he was raised by his uncle and aunt, Wilson and Lillian Nethery who raised him as their own. He later married June Laws Fuqua who predeceased him. He is survived by his children, Donna Surface (Jeff), Keith Fuqua (Jill) and Amy Blackstock (Rickey), seven grandchildren, Brittany Vernon (Taylor), Nathan Surface (Beth), Hannah Lambert (Zach), Ken Fuqua (Rachel), Brandon Fuqua (Cheyenne), Tyler Blackstock and Dylan Blackstock and 13 great grandchildren along with his special pets Abbie and Charlie. He is also survived by his sister Jane Poteat and good friend David Crumpton and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Judy Carrol and daughter in-law Cheryl Fuqua.

Kenny was a lifelong tobacco farmer and mechanic. He truly loved a tractor, having a large collection of his own. An avid outdoorsman he loved hunting and fishing and passed on that love to his children and grandchildren. His ability and reputation for working on tractors was evident by the number of people that brought equipment to the “Shop” for him to look at, whether he had the time or not, many times the bill would be “aw we’ll work something out "There wasn't much he couldn't fix. Kenny never met a stranger and could include his life experiences in to about any conversation.

He was a member of Bethel UMC. Later in his life after time had slowed him down some, he enjoyed going to his shop to “piddle around” and visit with friends that frequented for the conversation and to solve a lot of the world's problems.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday May 4, 2024, at Bethel UMC cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service in the church other times at the residence, 350 Wildwood Lake Rd Providence, NC. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Animal Protection Society or the charity your heart leads you to.
