Kenneth (Ken) Charles Bass, 75, passed away on August 8, 2024. He was born in Danville, Virginia on July 17,1949, to the late Charles Bass and the late Kathleen Bass Johnson.
Ken grew up in South Boston, Virginia and graduated from Halifax County High School in 1967. He earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Management in 1972 from Averett College and a Masters of Business Administration in 1987 from Averett University.
Ken began working at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in 1973. He held many positions throughout his tenure, ending his career in Human Resources in 2013.
He was a member of the Roman Eagle Lodge and was a past Worshipful Master and a 32nd Degree Mason.
He had many hobbies. In his younger years, Ken was an avid bowler and played in various bowling leagues in Danville and South Boston. Many days were also spent playing golf. In his later years, one of his most enjoyable pastimes was riding his John Deere tractor and cleaning up the yard. He also loved washing his cars! He had a love for football and baseball and loved watching the Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Braves and the Dallas Cowboys.
Ken is predeceased by his father, Charles Bass; mother, Kathleen Bass Johnson; and stepfather, Noel Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gail; sister, Mary Lee Jordan (Mike) of Greenville, NC; daughters Christie Shepherd (John) of Charlotte, NC; and Wendy Davis (Mark) of Louisville, Georgia. He is survived by his two grandchildren Kenadie Shepherd and Carson Davis.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Townes Funeral Home with the Reverend Joe Northen officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.
