Kathleen Dale Adkins Huggins, of 1111 Main Street, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at SOVAH Health Danville. Born in Pittsylvania County on January 14, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Claude Birman Adkins and Virgie Mae Adkins Adkins. On December 19, 1955 she married Theodore “Ted” Pollard Huggins who predeceased her on July 25, 1992. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by seven siblings, Lorene Adkins, James H. Adkins, Reid G. Adkins, Calvin B. Adkins, Iris D. Adkins, Robert E. Adkins, and Judy Lane Adkins. She was educated at Callands School and Radford College where she received her teaching certificate. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Past President and founding member of Starwood Garden Club, Past President of Windsor Heights Garden Club and a member of The Wednesday Club. She also volunteered at the Science Museum and was on the Danville Department of Social Services Advisory Board. She is survived by three sisters, Geneva A. Hodges of Danville, Betty A. Gibson and Barbara Jo Mills, both of Chatham; two children, Elizabeth Huggins Brown and her husband William H. Brown, Sr. and William S. Huggins and his wife Barbara S. Huggins; three grandchildren, Benjamin T. Huggins and his wife Ellen, William H. Brown, Jr. and Reverend Lindsey Kathleen Huggins; one great-grandson, Luke D. Huggins; and a friend Dr. Walter Deyton of Ashville, NC. The family would like to thank Mrs. Emma Heath and the staff of Faith Caregiver Services. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM, on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Allen Thompson and the Reverend Lindsey Kathleen Huggins officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 2, at Stratford House from 2:30 to 3:30 PM, and at Townes Funeral Home from 6:30 to 7:30 PM.
