Karen Renee Cotta, age 47 of Danville, Virginia, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 15. She was born on January 10, 1977 in Riverside, California, a daughter of Gary and Peggy Cotta.
Karen dedicated her life to applying her many skills and talents to loving and caring for individuals from all walks of life, and her hope for the world was that we all continue to grow in our capacity to treat all people, animals, and the planet with gentleness.
Karen was most recently working as a therapist at Premier Psychological Services. She had a passion for working with children and families and had many years of experience working with individuals with disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, dementia, and individuals in hospice as a music therapist.
Karen had a B.S. in Music Therapy and two Master’s degrees, one in Divinity, and the other in Social Work.
She kept busy pursuing a wide range of passions and interests, including making and sharing music, dancing, painting, improv comedy, gardening, hiking, biking, and travel.
Karen is survived by her parents as well as a sister, Jamie (spouse Marcos), and a nephew, Alejandro. She cherished her family and being an aunt.
Karen was a member of West Main Baptist Church, and a Celebration of Life will be held on May 4 at West Main Baptist Church at 1:00 PM, with Pastors Drew Herring and Sallye Hardy co-officiating.
Karen’s impact was profound and far-reaching, and she is remembered by countless loved ones as the most kind and loving soul.
