Justin Clay Walters, 31, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 29, 2013, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 2, 1982 in Danville, VA. He is survived by his mother and father, June Cardwell Walters and John C. Walters of Ringgold, VA; maternal grandmother Carolyn S. Cardwell of Ringgold, VA; devoted fiancé, Nancy Schomer; daughter, Caitlyn Haley both of Danville, VA; and sister, Emily Walters of Greenville, NC. Justin was a 2001 graduate of Dan River High School, Ringgold, VA and 2005 graduate of Averett University in Danville, VA. He was a member of North Main Baptist Church and a visitor of First Presbyterian Church both of Danville, VA. He was a pilot with Avant Air in Tampa, FL. Justin was a true friend to anyone he met and was loved by many. He enjoyed flying planes, hunting, fishing, and tending to his garden. He was an Eagle Scout, member of Train Wreck Brewers, lifetime member of Cavalier Hunt Club and Lifetime blood donor. Justin lived life to the fullest and made every day count. Funeral services will be held at North Main Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2014 with Rev. Fred Unger and Rev. Allen Thompson officiating. Interment will follow service at Highland Burial Park. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, January 2, 2014, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. All other times at the parents' residence of 505 Cardwell Lane Ringgold, VA 24586. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Danville Cancer Association, 223 Riverview Dr. Suite J. Danville, VA 24541.
