Mr. Julian Randolph Buckner, age 91, of 3510 Highway 29 North died Friday, October 28, 2016 at Danville Regional Medical Center. Mr. Buckner was born in Halifax County, VA on January 24, 1925, a son of the late Alfred Fleming Buckner and Mildred Long Buckner. He was a member of Grace Design United Methodist Church and American Legion Memorial Post # 325. He was retired from Dan River Mills as a Quality Control Supervisor. Mr. Buckner was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army. He was in the 29th Infantry Division and trained at Camp Shelby, MS and served in North Africa and Italy in the Anzio Invasion 1944. Mr. Buckner is survived by his wife, Billie Kendrick Buckner, daughter, Pamela Buckner Riedel and son-in-law Leonard W. Riedel, Jr. of Danville, granddaughter, Katherine Elizabeth Riedel of Durham, NC. Also surviving are a brother; Garland Woodrow Buckner and his wife Adelle of Sutherlin, VA, sister-in-law, Katherine Wiles Buckner of Danville, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. from Grace Design United Methodist Church with the Reverend Winston Crichlow officiating. Military honors will be presented by the American Legion Dan River Post # 1097 and the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service and at other times will be at the residence, 3510 Highway 29 North. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street is serving the Buckner family.
