Joyce Jean Sparks Crowder, age 89, passed away peacefully at Danville Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, with her loving family by her side. She was born March 5, 1925, in Abingdon, VA, to the late James D. and Daisy Vance Sparks. A graduate of George Washington High School, Joyce married Charles Woodrow Crowder on October 22, 1943, who predeceased her in 1977. She spent her life as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her sons, Jimmy Lee Crowder, and wife Jutta of St. Paul, MN; Charles Woodrow Crowder, Jr, and wife Gaynelle of Danville; four grandchildren, April Crowder Hawkins, and husband Todd of Danville; Charles Allen Crowder, of Danville; Max Ramme Crowder, of Minneapolis, MN; and Anja Ramme Crowder, of Washington, DC; and one great-grandchild, Anna Leigh Hawkins. Joyce was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church and the Mary Summers Garden Club. She enjoyed antiquing, gardening, traveling, reading, and spending time with her family. The family wishes to thank the DRMC nurses and staff of 5A; Drs. Mauricio Arrien and Sydney Harris; and caregivers Ellen McElheney, Martha Lewis, and Carrie Robertson for all their loving care and concern. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, February 23, 2015 at 2:00 PM from Townes Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Bruce Wilson and Reverend Kathleen Monge officiating. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Townes Funeral Home from 7-8:30. At other times the family will be at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, 160 Linden Drive, Danville. Townes Funeral Home & Crematory, 215 West Main Street, is serving the Crowder family.
