Mr. Joseph (Joe) C. Yeatts of 811 Kristen Lane, Danville, VA died Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the VA Medical Center in Durham, NC surrounded by his family and friends. Mr. Yeatts was born in Pittsylvania County, VA, March 22, 1923. He was the son of the late Charles Samuel Yeatts and Addie Stowe Yeatts. He was married to Irene Owen Yeatts on October 20, 1942. She predeceased him August 11, 2013. He is survived by two daughters, Sylvia Ramsey (and husband Leon), Anna Yeatts, one son, Rev. Joey Yeatts and two grandchildren, Stephen Ramsey (and wife Lindsey) and Ashley Ramsey. He is also survived by one sister, Erie Y. Mitchell and two brothers Guy Yeatts and Rev. Ira Yeatts. He was predeceased by four brothers, Rev. Charlie Yeatts, Carl Yeatts, Vernard Yeatts, Norwood Yeatts and four sisters Thelma Yeatts, Edna Y. Todd, Nina Y. Keatts and Doris Y. Wells. He graduated from Whitmell High School in 1940. Mr. Yeatts was drafted into the US Army in 1943 and was a WWII veteran. While in the military he was a heavy equipment operator and was stationed in the Azore Islands which served as a link for military aircraft traveling between the USA and bases in Europe and North Africa. One of his great loves in life was home building. Most of his life was spent around this profession. He was employed by the Pittsylvania County Building Inspections Department until he retired in 1986. He was also involved in activities at Mount View Holiness Church where he was a member and a deacon. Funeral services will be held at Townes Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 pm Friday, February 28. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service.
