Jonathan was born on February 3, 1966 in Detroit, Michigan. He was the son of Diane Krome and the late Dr. Ronald Krome. Jonathan is survived by a loving family, including his son Harrison Krome and wife Corinne Krome; and daughter Rachel Strawder and wife Kristen Strawder. He is also survived by his mother Diane Krome; brother Charles Krome and wife Anna; and sister Amy Krome. Many other family members will remember him with fond memories and funny stories.
Jonathan attended Southfield-Lathrup High School in Southfield, Michigan, where he was a member of the wrestling team, and graduated in 1984. He was a 1988 graduate of the University of Michigan, where he majored in economics and played soccer. He then studied at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where he graduated in 1992.
Jonathan became a beloved orthopedic surgeon for the community of Danville, VA, where he positively transformed numerous lives. He had special interests in Arthroscopy, Sports Medicine, and Total Joint Replacement. In his spare time, he also enjoyed working with local city and county schools, Averett University Athletics, and the Danville Braves.
Jonathan was a devoted son, father, friend, and doctor. His memory will be cherished. The family thanks all who have offered prayers, love, meals, and support during Jon’s illness.
Services will be held for the family, and live-streamed online for all to view using the view the webcast button at the top of this page. The service will take place at Sol Levinson’s Chapel, 8900 Reisterstown Road, Pikesville MD 21208 on Wednesday August 2nd, 2023 at 10:30 AM. Interment to follow at Shaarei Zion Cemetery. Friends and family will be welcomed at a celebration of life held at Townes Funeral Home, 215 W Main Street, Danville VA 24541 on Sunday August 6 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. A Shiva Minyan will be held at 1415 Magic Hollow Road, Durham NC 27713, the evening of Tuesday August 8. In lieu of flowers please send donations in his memory to the Averett University Sports Medicine Department, or to Judea Reform Congregation of Durham NC.
