John Dennis Scott passed away peacefully on February 24, 2024.
John was born and raised in Concord, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Myrtle Paige Scott and Roy Rubin Scott. John was most proud of his football scholarship to Clemson University and to be the first college graduate in his family. He served as Director of Parks and Recreation in Marion, South Carolina; Director of Camp Virginia Jaycee (a residential camp for children and adults with intellectual disabilities) and later, with the State Department of Parks and Recreation in Richmond, Virginia.
In 1974 John made a career change and worked his way up to General Manager of Tamson Chevrolet in Danville. He was later employed at Fuquay Pontiac. John was past Executive Director of the Danville Arc (Arc of the Southside) and founder of White Oak School for children with developmental and intellectual disabilities. He ended his career as Executive Director of Doves, Domestic Violence Center for Women.
John had a very kind, caring spirit and later in life, enjoyed helping others, doing odd jobs as a handyman. He loved Christmas and showering his children and grandchildren with gifts. He is survived by his two brothers, Roy, R. Scott, Jr. of Concord, North Carolina, and Bob G. Scott, of Kannapolis, North Carolina; daughters, Tammy S Winters (Aaron) of Deltona, Florida, and Joie S Ford (Ron) of Danville; seven grandchildren, Haley Ford, Jordan Whitt, Jadyn Whitt, Honor Ford, Braedon Whitt, Hayden Ford, and Hudson Ford, all of Danville; a special friend, Jeanette Staton and dog, Taylor.
