John Robert Hyler III, 77, of 239 Mowbray Arch, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017 in the Danville Regional Medical Center. He was born in Danville, VA on November 3, 1939, a son of the late John Robert Hyler Jr. and Ada Sheffield Hyler. John grew up in the Bachelors Hall Community and graduated from George Washington High School in 1958 and graduated from Randolph Macon College in 1962. He was a foreign exchange student at the University of Mexico, Mexico City in 1960. He was employed with CSX railroad company for over 30 years and later was a personal injury investigator. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, E. R. Sheffield and Gracie Sheffield; paternal grandparents, Joseph Robert Hyler and Martha Hyler; two children, John Robert “Johnny” Hyler IV and Jennifer Lynn Hyler; and a step-son, Michael Bauer. John is survived by his soulmate and wife, Judy Catherine Hyler; a special cousin, “Bucky” Hyler of Hilton Head, SC; a godson, Rhys Montgomery and his brother, Ryland Montgomery both of Richmond, VA; and his dear English Setter, Molly Hyler. John spent many happy days bird hunting with his friend, Wayne Merricks, and playing golf at Danville Golf Club with his good friends, Tommy Hodges, David Fuquay and Budge Kent. John loved life and all the people around him. He was a member of College Park Baptist Church, Danville Golf Club and German Club. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 2 pm at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Dr. CAM McIntire. Burial will follow in the Hyler family cemetery in Bachelors Hall. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1 to 2 pm and at other times will be at the residence, 239 Mowbray Arch.
