John Edward Grady, age 82, of 112 Northridge Drive, Danville, died on March 13, 2019. Born on March 1, 1937, in Owensboro, KY, he was the son of the late Harold and Pauline Wilson Grady. He attended Owensboro Catholic High School and, after serving in the United States Navy, he graduated from the University of Kentucky. On August 8, 1959, he married Marilyn White Grady, who survives. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Corning Glass Works in Harrodsburg, KY, and in Danville. After retiring from Corning he was employed by Master Gage Tools. In addition to his talent as an all-around handyman, he particularly enjoyed working with stained glass and wood. He crafted wooden cars and trains, rocking horses, dollhouses, and furniture for his daughters and grandsons. In addition to his wife, John is survived by three daughters: Kelly Bruton and husband Eric of Charlottesville; Elizabeth “Betsey” Grady and husband, Jeremy Stout, of Fairhope, AL, and Wendy Norris of Purcellville, VA. He leaves two grandsons, Nolan Bruton and Charlie Norris; two brothers: Harold “Scooter” Grady of Owensboro KY, and Charlie Pat (Marie) Grady of Mesa AZ and a sister, Bettie Wilson of Madisonville, KY. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert “Bobby” F. (Wanda, who survives) Grady of Owensboro, KY, and a sister, Jane Roberts of St. Louis, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Owensboro Catholic High School, 1421 Parrish Ave., Owensboro, KY 42301 or to Sacred Heart Catholic School, 540 Central Blvd., Danville, VA 24541, or to a charity of your choice. The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home on Saturday, March 16, from 2-4 PM.
