Mrs. Joan Morton Bohannon Shively, age 82 of 237 Montague Street went to be with her Lord on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Danville Regional Medical Center after a decline in health. She was born in Danville on April 12, 1932, a daughter of the late Samuel Sullivan Morton and Etta Hundley Morton. She was married to the late Norman E. Shively of Eden, NC who died July of 1998. Besides her parents and her husband she was predeceased by her siblings; Erle S. Morton, Ralph S. Morton, Carl E. "Jake" Morton, Sr., Baby Samuel S. Morton, Vivian M. Cook, Mary Ann Morton and Frances M. "Pat" Stewart. Mrs. Shively was retired from Dan River, Inc. working in the Quality Lab Control as a lab technician. Surviving are a son; Jay Michael Bohannon and his companion Ruth Lawrence and Nathananel Lawrence who fondly called her "Mama Joan" of Danville, a daughter, Vivian Suzzanne Bohannon of Danville, her favorite nephew, Carl E. Morton, Jr. (Diane) of Martinez, GA, nieces; Patricia M. Faulkner of Harlem, GA, Carolyn M. Kirkland (Dennis) of Evans, GA, Ginny M. Wise (Vernon) of Evans, GA, Dolores M. Harwell (Mark) of Canton, GA, Sandy M. Reed (Mike) of Martinez, GA and many great and great-great-nephews and nieces. Also survived by her "special adopted" son, William Hurley (Juanita Anderson) of Danville who was a tremendous help with medical supplies and transportation to appointments. She is also survived by many "adopted" children she considered as her own. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at 2 P.M. from the graveside at Mountain View Cemetery with the Reverend Freddie Vicks officiating. The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home on Monday, February 16, 2015 from 7 to 8 P.M. and at other times will be at the residence 237 Montague Street.
