While surrounded by family and dear friends, Jimmy Willie Pruitt, Sr. 83, of 4664 Shady Grove Road, Providence, NC went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and find eternal rest on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at his home. Jimmy was born on August 30, 1937 in Pelham, NC, the son of Alex Zander Pruitt and Willie Malven Adkins Pruitt. Jimmy graduated from Cobb Memorial High School. He willingly served in the U.S. National Guard. Jimmy played baseball for the New York Giants minor league team. He received an Associate’s degree from Danville Technical Institute. Jimmy retired as a machinist from Corning Glass Works and later worked for Century 21 Manasco Realty. He was a top salesperson in the Danville region for 3 years. Jimmy humbly served and lived out his faith as a member of Faith Memorial Baptist Church. He dedicated countless hours to coaching his sons and mentoring other young men on the baseball field. He generously gave love, support, encouragement and often shared a laugh with whomever he met. Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman and traveler. He loved spending time hunting, fishing and golfing and passed the love of these activities to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed many memorable trips over the years with family and friends, whether to Alaska, Canada, West Virginia or for the annual beach trip in October. On April 3, 1964, Jimmy married the love of his life, Reva Louise Cook. In addition to his loving, faithful wife, Jimmy is survived by his sons, Jimmy “Jim” Willie Pruitt, Jr. and his wife, Brenda, and Scott Duane Pruitt and his wife, Emily; grandchildren, Levi Pruitt, Chase Pruitt, Alexzander Pruitt and Allyson Pruitt; brothers, Wilson Pruitt and Larry “Butch” Pruitt, Sr.; sisters, Virginia Thompson, Gloria Bowes, Sylvia Adams, Janie Beggarly, Joyce Reed, Donna Gardner and Cheryl Edwards. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Andrew Pruitt, and sister, Rachel Johnson. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 19, 2021 from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Faith Memorial Baptist Church, 7450 Martinsville Highway, Danville, VA 24541, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens. At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence.
