Jimmy Ather Mann, 84, of 271 Starmont Blvd, Danville, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Beacon Place Hospice in Greensboro, NC. Born on November 29, 1928, he was a son of Burford A. (Bert) Mann and Lillian Lucille Martin Mann. He was married to Joan Hoke Mann who survives of the home. He was a graduate of Schoolfield High School. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Local Journeyman Pipefitter's Union and had worked at Richmond Security Services, Inc and also many years at the Nestle plant. He was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church. Mr. Mann was also a member of the NRA, American Legion Post 1097, VFW Post 647, the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 61, and a member of the Masons. In addition to his wife he is survived by three children, Donna Mann Scearce of Memphis, TN, Wendy Mann Fennell of Charlotte, NC, and Martin Hoke Mann of Danville, VA; two sisters, Linda Hyler of Lynchburg, VA and Gail Fields of Greensboro, NC; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his parents; one son, Bryan Jay Mann; and his brother, Ralph O. Mann. Graveside funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, July 29, 2013, at Mountain View Cemetery with the Reverend Jeffrey Wright officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Townes Funeral Home.
