Jerry E. Wentz, Sr., 96 of 145 Wentz Circle, Danville, Va., passed away on July 14, 2017. Mr. Wentz was born May 25, 1921, in Chattanooga, Okla. to Ira and Willie Wentz. He was a dedicated and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, a well-known business man in the Danville area for over seven decades and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 76 years, Lelia (Tillie) Barbour Wentz. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Jayne Wentz Blair of Danville, and his son, Thomas W. Wentz of Danville. He is survived by two sons, Jerry E. Wentz, Jr. (Phyllis) of Danville and William I. Wentz of Coconut Grove, Florida; two granddaughters, Beverly Wentz and Tammy Carter Vaughan (Donnie); and one grandson, Jerry E. Wentz III (Robyn); one great-granddaughter, Shelby Vaughan and three great-grandsons, Justin Wentz, Tyler Wentz and Colby Vaughan, all of Danville and a sister, Nancy Wentz Hundley of Norristown, Pa. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6:00 PM to 7:30PM at the residence at 145 Wentz Circle. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Danville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with the Rev. Dr. Billy Scearce and Rev. Scott Randlett officiating. Full military honors will be presented by American Legion Post 1097 and the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard.
