Jean Sides Gauldin, 88, of 134 Hawthorne Drive, died Monday, October 9, 2017, following a three-year decline in health. Mrs. Gauldin was born in Danville on February 7, 1929 to the late Gracie Barber Sides and Boyd Charlie Sides. She lived her entire life in Danville where she graduated from George Washington High School and attended Averett College. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a Court Reporter for the Corporation Court and later, the General District Court in Danville. After retirement, she enjoyed cooking and quilting. She was a charter member of the White Oak Mountain Quilters Guild. In November, 1951 she married James Thomas Gauldin, Sr., who predeceased her on March 10, 2015. She was also predeceased by a brother, Boyd Charlie Sides, Jr., and two sisters; Utha Sides Yeaman and Helen Sides Shaw. She is survived by a son, James Thomas Gauldin, Jr. A graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, October 13, 2017, at Highland Burial Park with the Reverend Jeffrey Wright officiating. The family would like to thank her caregivers, Rachel Broadie, Queenie Womack, and Amandia Hughes for their care and dedication during her decline in health.
