Janie Frances Hudgins Bayes of Danville, VA went on to be with the Lord peacefully on September 8, 2024, after a decline in health with dementia.
Janie was born October 29, 1933, in Roxboro, North Carolina. The daughter of Arthur Vernon Hudgins and Janie G. Marshall Hudgins. She married Henry Jerome Bayes on September 17, 1955, at Roxboro Baptist Church. He preceded her in death on November 27, 2013.
Mrs. Bayes was a resident of Danville since 1953. She was employed with Signet Bank for over 30 years. She was a member of North Main Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, was an assistant Sunday school teacher, and a member of The Sunshine Group, and The Songbirds. She also did visitation ministry to the home bound and to nursing homes.
She was preceded in death by her son Roger Lee Bayes, her parents, six brothers, Ennis, Robert, Marshall, Ellis, Norman, and James Hudgins, five sisters Clyde Hudgins, Katreen Rimmer, Grace Starette, Rachel Landes, and Ruth Ashley.
She is survived by two sons Barry (Tammy) Bayes of Hopewell, VA. Larry (Shelly) Bayes of Dry Fork, VA. Two Granddaughters Crystal (Chris) Guill of Ringgold, VA, Kimi (Shawn) Parker of Wakefield VA. Two grandsons Barry Bayes of Hopewell, VA and Davey Bayes of Danville, VA. Three great grandchildren Allyson Jefferson and Andrew Jefferson (their father Chris Jefferson) of Ringgold, VA and Sawyer Parker of Wakefield, VA. One sister-in-law Jonsilee Green of Clarksville, VA and many nieces and nephews.
Janie loved singing, working with flowers, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Some of her signature actions were presenting $2 bills to people on special occasions, singing happy birthday to family and friends, decorating gift baskets, and scrapbooking. She was a wonderful cook.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Schoolfield Cemetery with Pastor Fred Unger officiating. A visitation will be held at Townes Funeral Home on the same day from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM.
