Alice Jane Terry Carter, age 92, formerly of Marshall Terrace died Friday, December 21, 2018 at Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center after a decline in health. She was born in Danville on September 22, 1926, a daughter of the late Adrian Lafayette Terry and Bernice Alley Terry. Mrs. Carter was married to the late Eugene Vivian “Buddy” Carter, Jr. A graduate of George Washington High School, attended DCC and Albany State Junior College. She was a member of First Baptist Church for 58 years, a former deaconess and longtime member of the Adult Choir. A past member of the Wednesday Club, DACAS and the Heartstrings. Mrs. Carter was a secretary at Dan River Mills, secretary on the Council on Aging, Albany, GA and accountant for the City of Long Beach, CA. Besides her husband and parents she was predeceased by a son, Eugene Vivian Carter III, sister, Frances Terry Hosking and sister-in-law, Shirley Terry. She is survived by her sons, James Robert Bondurant Carter and wife Julie of Chatham, Terry Allen Carter and wife Cynthia of Danville and Patrick William Carter and wife Amy of Finksburg, MD, brothers, Adrian L. Terry, Jr. and wife Joan of Danville and Donald W. Terry of Conway, SC. Also surviving are grandchildren, Rebecca Elizabeth Carter, Taylor Jane Carter, Rachael Ann Carter, Mackenzie Lynn Carter, Sydney Leigh Carter, Maj. Terry Allen Carter, Jr. and wife Kristy, Leigh Vivian Walker and husband, John, Miles Patrick Carter and wife Jessica, Barbara Jo Gupton and James Ryan Gupton and wife Catherine and multiple great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. from First Baptist Church with Reverend John Carroll and Minister of Music Angela Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 P. M. in the Heritage Room at the church.
