Jan H. McClure passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 7, 2018. Born March 10, 1953 in Louisiana, Jan was the first child of the late Alease Brumfield Holland and Emmett L. Holland. She was an honor graduate of Gretna High School, Class of 1971, Danville Community College, Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia. She taught elementary school in the counties of Pittsylvania, Southampton and Henry in Virginia and spent the next 25 years of her career as a consultant with Open Court, a publisher of reading textbooks. She travelled extensively with her job living in Florida, Arizona, California and Texas. She loved learning and teaching, was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling and playing tennis. Jan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William C. McClure, on October 23, 2013. In addition to her father, Jan is survived by her sister, Ann Taylor and her husband, Reid; her niece, Beth Patrick and her husband, Will; her great niece, Emerson Grace Patrick; and her great nephew, Reece Everett Patrick. Honoring Jan’s longtime request, there will be no service, but she asks that you love and live life to the fullest.
