James West Mathieson, Jr. of Danville, VA died Tuesday, November 6, 2012 after a lengthy illness. He was born on February 20, 1961 in Hampton, VA and was 51 years old. He was the son of The Reverend James W. Mathieson and Joan Ownby Matheison of Danville. West was a member of the Episcopal Church, a graduate of Cape Fear College, Wilmington, NC and a veteran of the United States Navy. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his long-time companion, Debbie Turner Vaughan, her daughters, Michelle DeHart and husband, Joe, and Kristy Roark, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by two brothers, Brian Edward Mathieson and William Cooper Mathieson and wife, Clara and daughter Olivia. He was predeceased by a brother, Charles David Mathieson. A Memorial Service will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Chatham, VA on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend R. Christopher Heying officiating. The family will be at West and Debbie's home, 168 Poplar Road, Danville and at his parent's home, 183 Grove Park Circle, Danville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests Memorials be given to the American Cancer Society. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street, is serving the Mathieson family.
