James “Jim” Allison Martin went to be with the Lord at 2:56am on February 5, 2021 at Sovah Hospital in Danville, VA. Jim was 87 years old and shared his wonderful life with his family, many friends and acquaintances in the area. Jim grew up in Axton, Va. and once he graduated high school he joined the U.S. Navy where he proudly served his country for 8 years. He was extremely proud of serving his country and talked about it often. After leaving the military, Jim went back to Virginia, got married and settled down in Danville. There he started his own business by opening his first barber shop in Riverside Shopping Center. He would open a couple more shops and continue to service his customers for over 50 years. Jim loved people and was always open to conversations with new or old friends. Jim was a faithful church member all during his life and his favorite book in the bible was Proverbs. Jim is survived by his wife Catherine Martin, son David Martin and his wife Susan, daughter Tracy Shaw and her husband Brent, daughter Tammy Fallen and her husband Ray. He is also survived by his two brothers, Harold Martin and Clyde Martin and his wife Jewell, as well as three grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Allison Martin and Beulah Wilkinson Martin as well as his son James Alan Martin. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 8, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. from Townes Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Bob Yeaman officiating. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be presented by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Tyler Shaw, Bryan Fallen, David Marshall, David Crews, W. H. Williams, and Alex Vardavas; and Honorary Pallbearer will be Bill Simpson. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Danville office, 308 Craghead Street, Suite 104, Danville, VA 24541.
