James Gupton

Mr. James Dwight Gupton, age 59 died Thursday, April 13, 2017 at the Martinsville Health and Rehab in Martinsville, VA.                James also known as "Gup" and "Spudnik" was born in Henderson, NC on November 8, 1957, he was the son of the late William Joseph Gupton and Shirley Hope Gupton Gardner.  Besides his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, Dean Gupton and Wayne Gupton.                Gup was a man who meant what he said and said what he meant.  He was a giving soul that served tirelessly as an EMT with the Danville Life Saving and First Aid Crew for many years.  He was a recipient of a heart transplant many years ago from a young woman in Oklahoma.                 Surviving are a son; James Ryan Gupton and his wife Catherine of Martinsville and a daughter, Bobbie Jo Gupton of Axton.  Gup is also survived by his precious grandchildren; Zoey Campbell and Xavier Campbell.                  The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the donations that have been given in memory of Gup.                Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. from Townes Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Susan Hannah, Pastor at Saint Luke’s United Methodist Church officiating.                Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street is serving the Gupton family.
