James Thomas Gauldin Sr., 89, of 134 Hawthorne Drive, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at Danville Regional Medical Center following a recent decline in health. Mr. Gauldin was born in Danville on March 19, 1925 to the late Hilda Minter Gauldin and William Everett Gauldin. He lived his entire life in Danville where he graduated from George Washington High School and, after serving in the United States Navy during World War II, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech. Prior to retirement, he worked as an Electrical Engineer for the City of Danville Electric Department and Dan River, Inc. After retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and primarily, restoring antique radios. He had amassed an impressive collection of antique radios, of which he was proud. Mr. Gauldin is survived by his wife, the former Jean Sides, and a son, James Thomas Gauldin, Jr. He is also survived by a sister, Christine Gauldin Major, of Richmond. He was predeceased by a brother, Clyde Neal Gauldin. Graveside rites will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 12 at Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Jeffrey Wright. At all other times, the family will be at the residence. The family will be at the residence, 134 Hawthorne Drive.
