Command Sergeant Major, James “Jim” Glover Crane, Retired, 88, husband of Ann L. Crane, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at SOVAH Health – Danville. Jim served at Third Avenue Christian Church as Church Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher and Chairman of the Board of Finance, Awana Game Director, and several other committees. During his service to our country, he was stationed in Puerto Rico, Formosa, Asmara, Eritrea and Seoul, Korea, and Hawaii. After retiring, he was a lifetime member of the Archer T. Gammon Chapter #19 of the Disabled American Veterans, where he held office of Adjutant, Member of American Legion Post 325 serving on the Honor Guard. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as friends and family will attest. He assisted his brother, Alvin, as a television repairman at Crane’s TV. His attention to detail was legendary. He took pride in the fact that he always left his customers satisfied. Jim’s passion for his great-grandchildren was secondary only to his faith in Jesus Christ. In addition to his loving wife of 57 years, Jim is survived by one daughter, Pam Newcomb (Harold); two grandchildren Kristie Morris (Keith) and Matthew Newcomb (Christie); six great-grandchildren: Kayleigh Morris, Kendra Morris, Laci Newcomb, Kolby Morris, Keegan Morris, and William Newcomb; one brother Raymond Crane (Lois); and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by parents, Claude Swanson Crane and Nannie Sue Moon Crane, and children Bobby and Nancy, and brothers, Alvin, Melvin, Neal, Gene and one sister Barbara. The funeral service will follow in the chapel at 4:00 p.m. Interment will follow in a family plot in Highland Burial Park.
