James L. “Pete” Brown, age 85, of 109 Canterbury Road, Danville, died Sunday, January 10, 2016, at his residence. Born on August 28, 1930, in Danville, Virginia, he was the son of Mary Virginia and Witcher Norman Brown of the city. He was married to the former Doris Jean Orrell of Danville. Pete attended Schoolfield High School, and was a graduate of Danville Technical Institute. He served for four years in the United States Air Force. He owned and operated Auto Parts & Glass Company for more than 40 years. Pete was a member the Kiwanis Club of Danville, and was past president of the Danville Optimist Club. For more than 50 years he was a member of the Roman Eagle Masonic Lodge No. 122, and the Danville Scottish Rites, as a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, where at one time he served on the Finance Committee. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Kathy Brown Laramore; brothers, William Norman Brown, Thomas Edward Brown, Carlton Neal Brown; and sisters, Louise Brown Turpin and Frances Brown. Pete is survived by his loving wife of the home, and sisters Peggie Brown Taylor and Doris Brown Wrenn; daughter Susan Brown Baggerly and husband John; son-in-law John H. Laramore and wife Katherine Mize Laramore; grandchildren Stuart Laramore and wife Kim, Jean Marie Laramore Ellis and husband Dr. Ezra Ellis, Anne Baggerly, Laura Baggerly Migliarese and husband Gregory Migliarese III; and four great-grandchildren, Anna Grace, Luke, Kathryn and Elizabeth. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church with the Reverend Barry Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence.
