Jack Thomas Denny of 611 Greenwich Circle left this earth for his heavenly reward on Monday, February 20, 2017 at Riverside Health and Rehab Center. He was born on May 16, 1933 to the late James Robert Denny Sr. and Sarah Jackson Denny in Danville, Va. He was also predeceased by his three siblings: James R. Denny Jr., Dorothy Denny Johnson, and Otha (Bud) Denny. Jack attended Danville Public Schools, VPI, and was in the first graduating Fire Science Class at DCC. On April 11, 1953, he married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Betty Jean McClanahan who survives. They were blessed with two beautiful girls, Sharon Elizabeth Denny (deceased) and Deborah Denny McDaniel; two Grandchildren; Jerry McDaniel Jr. (Nicole) and Jamie McDaniel Bachman (Eric); one Great Grandson, Declan McDaniel; special Niece Brenda Davis (Joey) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a devoted family man. He was always there for those dance performances, Girl Scout outings, school programs, field trips and family vacations. Family and church gatherings were a very important part of his life. Jack was a member of Grace Design UMC. He was a choir member, trustee, and stew master. He was a proud and dedicated member of the Danville Fire Department for 38 years. He retired as an Assistant Fire Chief for the City of Danville. In his early years, he worked at Sears. Jack was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in France and Germany. He was also a lifetime member of Red Men #124. Visitation will be Friday, February 24th from 7-8:30 pm at Grace Design UMC at 1064 Franklin Turnpike. At other times the family will be at the home of Brenda and Joey Davis, 209 Wheatley Rd. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 25th at 2 pm at Grace Design UMC. The family suggests in lieu of flowers that memorials be sent to Grace Design UMC or the charity of your choice.
