VIEW MEMORIAL VIDEO Iva Holley Ligon, 89, passed away unexpectedly Monday, September 11, 2017 at SOVAH Health, Danville, VA. Mrs. Ligon lived her early life in the Whitmell Community of Pittsylvania County, graduating from Whitmell Farm Life High School and Phillips Business College in Lynchburg, VA. She worked at Dan River, Inc. - Hylton Hall, Disston, Inc., Dibrell Tobacco Company, and Swicegood-Barker Funeral Home. She was a long-time member of the Dan-Pitts Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association and was of the Baptist faith. Born April 19, 1928 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Posey Lester Holley and Gertie Cassada Holley. She was predeceased by husband Harry Garland Ligon, Jr. on November 18, 2011 following 62 years of marriage; by a daughter, Deborah Ligon Mitchell, and one sister, Betty Holley Clark. She is survived by grandson Thomas Scott Mitchell of Danville, one sister Linda Allmond Strunk and husband Allen of Las Vegas, Nevada, three brothers, Jim Holley of Greendale, Wisconsin, Ray Holley and wife Rose of Lincoln, California, and Don Holley and wife Debra of Providence, North Carolina., along with numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, September 16th at Townes Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. Visitation will begin one hour before service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mount Hermon Volunteer Fire Department, 4268 Franklin Turnpike, Danville, VA 24541.
