Isabella Ward Pretty of Danville, Va. went home to be with the Lord on April 14, 2013. She was born Aug. 7, 1913, in Philadelphia Pa., to Samuel Marshall Ward and Mary Constable Ward. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Harry Manley Pretty, whom she married Sept. 18, 1937 and took care of him the latter years of his life until his death Dec. 3, 1975. Their children are Richard J. "Dick" Pretty, Nancy Pretty Farley, wife of the late Sutton Farley Jr., and Mary Beth Sullivan, wife of Roll Sullivan of Easton, Md. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Sandy Marks Pretty of Danville, Va. Her sister, Edith Mae Flavell, and brother, Samuel Marshall Ward Jr., also preceded her in death. She has eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Grandchildren include Mark and Joy Pretty, Kathy and Patrick Womack, David Pretty and friend Kim Reynolds, Michael and Lyn Farley, Jen and Jarda Brych, Sarah and Alan Wheedleton, Matthew Sullivan and Katie Jo Zimmerman, Katie and Patrick Thomas. Great-grandchildren are Landon Pretty; Dylan Whitlow and fiancée Michaela and her son Mason; Kaleb and Amber Farley; Jessica Pretty and her friend Aaron Young; Joseph Womack; Sarah Grace Womack; Nathan Farley; Mia Isabelle Wheedleton; Cooper Brych; Clara Anna Wheedleton; and Thomas twins due in October. She had a special caregiver, Bruni Scarce. Isabella and her family moved to Danville in 1949 from Pennsylvania. She was a member of The Wednesday Club, the Beverstone Garden Club, and was a 40-year volunteer with the hospital. The family is thankful for the kindness shown by those who cared for her at her home, Roman Eagle and DRMC. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Danville and regularly attended until several months ago. Her family was her legacy and greatest joy. She showed her love by filling them with special love, good food and Christian values. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, at Townes Funeral Home and at the home at other times. The funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday April 17, at First Baptist Church of Danville, with the Rev. Patrick Womack and the Rev. John Carroll officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the Danville Life Saving Crew, First Baptist Church, God's Storehouse, or a suitable charity of your choice.
