Mr. Irvin Dodd “I.D.” Stowe, age 78, devoted family man and a pillar in his community, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Roanoke Carilion Hospital. “I.D.” was born in Dry Fork, VA on January 16, 1939, a son of the late Irvin Overby (Son) Stowe and Selestia Ivory (Lessie) Shelton Stowe. He was an active member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and was a member of the choir, a die-hard Yankee fan and music lover. “I.D.” retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and enjoyed long daily walks and visits with family and friends. He was married to the late Doris Anne Gravely Stowe who died December 31, 2001. “I.D.” was a veteran serving the United States Army. He is survived by his children; Wendee Stowe Grimes and Cameron Grant Stowe, grandchildren; James Gordon Grimes and Anna Grimes Barrett and one great-grandson, Brody James Grimes. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. from St. Luke’s United Methodist Church with the Reverend Susan Hannah officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park with Military Honors presented by the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home Thursday, July 13, 2017 from 7 to 8:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3090 North Main Street, Danville, VA 24540. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street, is serving the Stowe family.
