Irma East Carter, age 93, passed away Wednesday evening, June 5, 2013 at her residence, 8625 Spring Garden Road, Blairs, VA surrounded by her family. She was born on July 16, 1919 in the Shockoe Community of Pittsylvania County, VA a daughter of the late Willie T. East and Annie Graves East. On December 21, 1941 she married William Fredrick "Billy" Carter, Sr. who passed away on April 10, 2003. Irma was an active member of Chestnut Level Baptist Church and Morgan Johnson Chapter 44 Order of the Eastern Star. She was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters. Irma was loved and cherished by a son, William F. "Freddy" Carter, Jr. and his wife, Jean, a daughter, Ellen Carter French and her husband, Johnny, all of Blairs, three grandchildren, William F. "Rick" Carter, III and his wife Kim, Robert James "Robby" Carter and Lauren Raye French, two great-grandchildren, Austin Winn Carter and Billie Jean Carter. The family would like to thank all the caregivers for their love, support and care shown to our mother, especially the long-term caregivers, Sandra, Hazel and Sylvia. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Chestnut Level Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. with the Reverend David Anderson, the Reverend Julian Griffin and the Reverend Bruce Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the residence, 8625 Spring Garden Road.
