Mrs. Iris Hill Garrett, 89, of Danville went to be with her Lord on Thursday, January 31, 2019 after a brief stay at Roman Eagle Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born on June 14, 1929 in Reidsville, N. C. and educated in the Danville Public Schools, Mrs. Garrett was the daughter of Robert Hughes Hill and Florence Powell Hill. On January 7, 1950, she married Harvey L. Garrett. She is survived by her husband and two sons, William Harvey “Bill” Garrett and his wife Voinda and James Edward “Ed” Garrett, all of Danville. Mrs. Garrett is also survived by two grandchildren, Michael Wayne Garrett of Axton, VA and Lisa Marie Garrett of Burlington, N. C. and one great-grandson, Tanner Mason Garrett also of Axton, VA. Mrs. Garrett was the last survivor of ten siblings—four brothers and six sisters and leaves many surviving nieces and nephews. She retired from Thalhimers Department Store as a department supervisor in 1976. She was a faithful member of North Main Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class. She had served as past treasurer of the Joy Sunday School Class, past treasurer of the Senior Citizen Club and past board member of the Council on Aging at the Senior Citizen Center. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, and decorating for Christmas. She dearly loved her family and church and had a strong faith in God. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 4, 2019 at 11am at Townes Memorial Chapel with Reverend Fred Unger officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 3, 2019 from 7 to 8:30pm at Townes Funeral Home and at other times at the residence, 402 Clarkson Drive.
