Irene Virginia Ferrell Lumpkin, 91, of Danville, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2015. She was born in Danville on May 28, 1923 to the late Nellie Davis Johnson and Elmer S. Ferrell. She married Ramah W. Lumpkin, Sr. on September 25, 1943 who predeceased her in October 2012. She spent her life in Danville, starting her career at Thalhimers Department Store where she worked as a model and in the cosmetics department. Later she was co-owner of Lumpkin Furniture with her husband and son until her retirement in 2005. She was a lifetime member of Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her daughter Barbara Rae Lumpkin, her brother Clarence Ferrell, and her sister Reba Ferrell. Mrs. Lumpkin is survived by her son Ramah W. Lumpkin, Jr. and his wife Kathy of Danville, her sister-in-law Kay Lumpkin Moody, one niece, and three nephews. A graveside funeral service will be held at Highland Burial Park on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 2 p.m. with Reverend Freddie Vicks officiating.
