Howard Oliver “Jack” Butler, age 89, of Danville, VA, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2018 at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Butler was born in Halifax County, Virginia, to the late Frank D. Butler and Vera Robertson Butler. He was a 1946 graduate of Turbeville High School, and served as a member of the U.S. Armed Forces during the Korean War. He worked at Link-Watson as a chainsaw repairman before beginning his 28 year career as a supervisor at Disston Tools, where many of his employees said “he was the best boss [they’d] ever had.” After retirement he devoted most of his time to gardening, wood working, furniture making, and clock repair. He was never too busy to help his neighbors, and he was found, most evenings, on the front porch with a black cat in his lap. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Delores B. Butler; one son, William H. Butler (Kate); two daughters, Jeanne B. Richardson (Lee) and Beth B. Webb (Kenn); three grandchildren, Adam Butler (Erika), Becky Butler (Neil), and Olivia Richardson; three great-grandchildren, Idris, Hugo, and Yves; one brother, Lawrence Butler; and two cats; Mama Cat and Rastus. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. from Townes Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Wayne Wallace officiating. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be presented by the American Legion Dan River Post # 1097 and the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard.A special thanks to Riverside Health and Rehab North wing staff for all their love and care given to dad. The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home on Friday, March 30, 2018 from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. and at other times will be at the residence, 209 Ethel Court.
