Mr. Henry Jerome Bayes, 82, of 167 Winthrop Drive, Danville, went on to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 27, 2013. Henry was born on August 9, 1931, in Danville, to the late Tucker and Florence P. Bayes of Danville. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janie F. Hudgins Bayes, and three sons, Roger L. Bayes of Danville, Larry D. Bayes and wife Shelly Bayes of Dry Fork, and Barry W. Bayes and wife Tammy Bayes of Hopewell, VA. In addition to his wife and sons, Henry is survived by his grandchildren, Crystal Bayes Jefferson and husband Chris Jefferson of Ringgold, Kimi Bayes and Barry Bayes Jr. of Hopewell, VA, Davey Bayes of Dry Fork, Misti Davis of Dry Fork, and Amber Bayes of Martinsville, VA. Henry is also survived by his great grandchildren, Allyson Jefferson, Andrew Jefferson, Zachary Davis, and Annmarie Davis. Henry grew up in Danville, VA the only child of the late Tucker and Florence Bayes. After high school he went into the United States Navy where he completed 4 years of service. After his time in the Navy, Henry became a City of Danville Police officer where he worked for 33 years. After his retirement from the Police Department Henry continued to work, his last place of work was at Food Lion Market Square where he worked for 12 years. Henry was a member of North Main Baptist Church; he loved the Lord and his family. Henry will be missed dearly; he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 2 p.m. at North Main Baptist Church with Pastor Fred Unger officiating. Interment will follow in the Schoolfield Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Townes Funeral Home on West Main Street from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, November 29, 2013. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to the American Diabetes Association. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street, is serving the Bayes family.
